Menganyam ketupat

Hello everybody after a week of no posts and SELAMAT HARI RAYA!It seems like it was just yesterday when we Muslims started fasting.Onto the post,

The picture above wasn't taken in Selangor but was taken at my grandmother's place at Muar.Muar is located in Johor. My grandmother was teaching my dad how to weave or in Malay, menganyam ketupat.Actually,my dad already knows how but he wanted to refresh mis memory because we will be going to Kedah during Eid ul-Adha and dad came up with an idea to weave ketupat for us to eat with rendang at Kedah.I also tried to weave one but probabbly because my hands were a bit stiff,I couldn't make one.I guess I need more practice.

Storks along the highway

Can you see black looking things on the lamp post? That would be storks. They're from Zoo Negara or better known as our National Zoo which is located near the highway.Usually there'll only be about two storks but when I took this picture, they were on the lamp posts along the highway.I guess they got bored staying inside the zoo and decided to see what the humans were up too.The storks at Zoo Negara aren't locked up inside cages but let out.The storks wont fly far away though. They'll return back home by night or so.

A new sister

[Picture by Dad of Five aka my Dad]

Finally,my mum has just delivered the baby which has been in her tummy for 9 months.Alhamdulillah, praise to God,it was a girl!Mum had decided her name long before she was even born. Her name is Siti Hajar and was born on the 27th of September at 1.20 am at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital by Dato' Dr. Ashar. When she was first born, she looked like my younger brother,Yusof. Now she looks more and more like my mum's mother.

And,I'm sorry for the no posts.I've been busy for my Final Examinations as well as babysitting Hajar.I'll try to keep posting as regularly as I can.

Theres a TV!

As you can see, there's a television in the area where women pray which is on the 1st level or ground level. The television displays the movements of the imam just in case the microphone doesn't work.Last year,I prayed at the second level and the second level didn't have a television. There was one time when the microphone didn't work and it was dreadful to keep up with the imam's movements. So far,the microphone is still working.

Performing wudhuk

This picture was taken at the surau where I usually perform my Tarawih prayers.Tarawih prayers are prayed in pairs of two and can be prayed in any even amount of raka'ah, although 8 & 20 raka'ah is what Muslims usually pray. This prayer is performed after Isyak prayers. I usually pray 8 raka'ahs. The guy in the picture arrived at the surau after Isyak prayers were finished that's why he was in a hurry to perform his wudhuk.Wudhuk is better known as ablution.

Fruit seller

The guy in the picture was selling various types of fruits which I can't recall their names. Most of them were local fruits. He used to sell roasted water chestnuts but now I see he is starting to sell fruits instead.

Happy Ramadhan Al-Mubarak to all the Muslim DP Bloggers as well as Muslim visitors.

Setia Budi #2

Another picture of Setia Budi. For those of you who have forgotten or they've only just read my blog, you can read here. This picture was taken when the students were walking to go to their classes. Before they get to class, they'll pas by the IIUM montessory. The building of the montessory is two storeys high.If I get the chance to go inside,I'll take pictures of it.The design of the building is more less like the International Islamic University because they are under the same management.

Rooftiles

Good for you who got the correct answer. Our roof was leaking so my dad called up the contractor who renovated our house to check it out.Our house is 8 years old and the rooftiles were already damaged due to old age.The contractor went up the roof and took down a piece of the rooftile. It was literally rotten and it had fungus all over it so we have to change the whole set of rooftiles in the nearest time.

BTW,the fasting month is getting nearer!

MIA,again

I'm so sorry.I've been busy lately.

Today,I'm posting about a dental clinic at Projet.Yes,they have a dental clinic there. As you see,it's 24 hours so you can visit there any time you want. And next to the dental clinic is McDonalds so if the person has just finished an ice cream sundae and suddenly had a toothache, they could just run next door to see the dentist and if they have a tummy ache as well, they need not go farther because the dental clinic is also a clinic.I think its good to have a dental clinic and clinic next door's to McDonalds.

DP Theme Day:Street Lights and Signs

This is a typical street light or as I call it,lamp post. The lamp posts around our neighbourhood have lots of advertistments of people who offer plumbing. Sometimes when you can't put anymore advertistments, they just overlap them. The sky was clear in the early morning on the day I took this picture which was on the 31st of August. But after a while, clouds came rolling by.

Here are some other DP Blogs which are participating in today's theme day.Do check them out!
You may not be able to see some of the pictures because of the different time zones.

The Straits Times

This week, one of our local English newspapers are giving out free copies of The Straits Times newspaper during the week before our first National Day in the year 1957. The Straits Times is a Singaporean newspaper if I'm not mistaken.I've already finished reading it and I find the style they organize the article in the newspapers are different than the ones now. Very short but very informative. Can you see the price in the picture?15 cents, quite cheap.

Tomorrow is Malaysia's 50th birthday!

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque

Was on the way to grandma's house at Shah Alam when I realised that the traffic light which we stopped at was somewhere near the mosque which made Shah Alam famous, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque. I've been in there 2 times last year to do prayers during the fasting month. The architecture is very nice both interior and exterior. This particular mosque has 4 minarets which are 640 feet tall. Maybe I'll get a chance to do my prayers here again this year during the fasting month. If I do,I'll surely post some pictures of the interior of this particular mosque.

BTW,sorry for the no posts.I was fresh out of pictures because I didn't go anywhere during this past week but there will be pictures this week. And have a nice week everyone!

Merdeka spirit

Nationwide, everybody is putting the Jalur Gemilang to show their spirit to celebrate the date which is very meaningful to us all in Malaysia, our National Day.They only do this when our National Day approaches and it is only a matter of weeks before it's National Day.Sometimes I wonder when will they let our Jalur Gemilang wave in the breeze forever. All around KL,I can see that nearly all the buildings have already have a Jalur Gemilang.

Ampang Park #3

Those two teenagers were smoking. These days in Malaysia some of the teenagers are already smoking. Some of them started since 10-12 years old and continue until now.I had to take this picture quietly because I was afraid they might notice. You'll never know what they'll do to you when they notice you taking a picture of them.

Ampang Park #2

As mum looked for what she wanted at the vegetables section,I looked around to snap pictures for my DP.As I was looking,I spotted zuchinis which were in a container. It was my first time seeing a zuchini up close. All this while I've only read it in books.I think it looks like a cucumber.

What does it taste like?Is it nice?

Monkey on the wire

Lucky again!I was in my brother's room when I spotted a baby monkey climbing the wire.It spotted me trying to take a picture of it and it ran away.First time I saw a monkey since February.I wonder what happened to them.

Ampang Grocers SDN BHD

This is a grocery store in Ampang,I've only been inside there once to accompany my mum.The second time I went there,my dad was in a rush so I didn't accompany him.In the picture,it states there that it used to be known as Ampang Mini Market.Click on picture to zoom.

Lontong Breakfast #4

Roti canai. One of the favourite food of Malaysian's and also tourists who visit Malaysia. The one I ate on Sunday morning was very nice.I didn't try the roti bom though. My brothers finished it.

And I just realised yesterday's post was my 100th post. Thanks to all of the people who have supported Selangor DP!

Lontong Breakfast #3

After I had finished eating,I looked for some inspirations to take a picture because I was getting bored.Coincidentally, this cat came to our table and looked up at me.It wanted to eat but unfortunately I had finished what I ate, which was roti canai. As it stared at me for a couple of seconds,I got the chance to snap a picture of it and then it turned away.I think I was very lucky on that day.

Lontong Breakfast #2

I had milked tea for my breakfast yesterday. It wasn't too sweet and it tasted just nice. The froth was nice as well.

Milked tea vs coffee.Which one do you prefer?

Lontong Breakfast #1

Today, right after I woke up,my dad said he was bringing us out for breakfast.Usually,I won't go because I'd rather stay at home and eat bread with St. Dalfours jam and watch televeision but today I decided to go out with them.We went to a lontong shop by the side of the road which is only about 10 minutes from home. The picture above shows lontong.Lontong is basically 'nasi impit' which is served with vegetable stew or better known here as 'Sayur Lodeh' and topeed with 'sambal' and toasted coconut or better known here as 'kerisik'.

'Nasi impit' is something like ketupat but now they have the instant ones which only require it to be boiled for a few minutes.Ketupat takes a much more longer time because you have to weave the casing and then fill it up and boil it in a very large pot. That is usually done about 1 week before Hari Raya in my 'kampung',Muar. My grand aunties, who are excellent cooks, takes ketupat orders every Hari Raya,I find their ketupat very nice especially with peanut sauce or better known as 'kuah kacang'.

Do you have an organic lifestyle?

Setia Budi

This school used to be my school back in 2004 until 2006,now my younger brother is at this school. They moved to this new compound in 2005.The school's name is Sekolah Taman Ilmu dan Budi which means Garden of Knowledge and Virtue. It is then shortened into Setia Budi.It is under the International Islamic University Malaysia's management. In this compound, they have three school's in it including Setia Budi. The other two are International Islamic School(IIS) and the IIUM Montessori.Their session is from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m..Is that a very long period of time for one to be in school?

School van

I wasn on the way to my tuition but before that I had to send my younger brother to school which is at Gombak. Our car was behind his school's school van. Most of the school vans in Malaysia are yellow coloured. What about the one in your country of hometown?

Kopitiam breakfast #4

My brother was slurping the half boiled egg from the bowl when I took this picture. It really looks appetising but I've never been interested in tasting half boiled egg before. What does it taste like?

Monday, August 6, 2007

Kopitiam breakfast #3

The picture shows 'nasi lemak' with chicken rendang.Usually, rendang is eaten with lemang or ketupat during Hari Raya. The basic nasi lemak is served with boiled egg,2-3 slices of cucumber,a bit of nuts and fried anchovies and sambal. The chicken rendang adds more variety to the taste of the nasi lemak.

Kopitiam breakfast #2

The picture shows a typical kopitiam breakfast which is toasted bread with kaya, kopitiam style as well as a cup of 'teh tarik' which is basically tea with condensed milk. The toasted bread's filling is very nice and it has lots of butter in it as well as kaya. The 'teh tarik' has the correct amount of condensed milk so it tastes not too sweet and not too tasteless.

Kopitiam breakfast #1

This morning,my dad decided to bring us to a kopitiam which was opened by one of his close friends. The picture above shows my dad cracking open a half-boiled egg.

The shop is located in Bangi and it is called Bangi Kopitiam.Their slogan is "Let's eat together-gether...".I find it very catchy.
The people who go there are from the elite society of Bangi.By 8 a.m.,there are already about 8 people.Imagine how many people would be there at 10 a.m.?More pictures coming soon,so stay tuned!

SACC Mall

I couldn't upload any pictures from my camera so I decided to use one of my old ones. This picture was taken at SACC Mall which is located in Shah Alam. The last time I went there, there were not many people.I guess because it was a Sunday and nobody wanted to get out of bed.

From this day on,

Ampang DP will be known as Selangor DP.I find it very hard to capture pictures because there are not much of interesting places in Ampang so I made up my mind to change it to Selangor DP.

Turkey on the loose

That turkey has been on the loose for nearly a week. It's been running around my housing area and clucking. It was very loud.Louder than my voice.I wonder where it came from...

DP Theme Day:Typical Breakfast

I find nuggets and fruit juice to be my typical breakfast.Very childish isn't it?Well, because I have two younger brothers who are still in kindegarden,so I have to eat what toddlers eat, nuggets. It's actually quite delicious but after sometime you'll get sick with it.I haven't and lets pray I won't get sick eating nuggets nearly every day.

Do visit these other blogs which are participating.

The sign which everyone ignores

This sign is often ignored because no one seems to see it.It is quite hidden. It is really displeasing to hear cars speeding over the bump and produces this 'BUMP' sound which is very irritating.I hope someone will be moving this sign where someone migt be able to see it.

Antique collection #1

This is one of the padlocks on our door.It was handed down to my dad by my grandfather. It used to be the lock to the front gate of my dad's house in Batu Pahat - 32 Jalan Durian, Taman Ampuan, Batu Pahat, Johor. It now guards our main entrance to the house, which is a 100 year old Javanese door.My dad is an antique collecto. We have more than 20 antique pieces at home. Will be posting more of it.

Friendly service

I was in the car waiting for my mother to fill up the tank of our car because it was running out of fuel when I spotted this man cleaning the windshield of the car in front of our car.I think he is about 40 years of age but still working very hard to please everyone who comes to Petronas station.

Potter frenzy

Finally, the last Harry Potter book. For experience,my dad brought me to Kinokuniya at KLCC at 3.50 a.m. just to get in line.Unfortunately,by the time we reached there, there were about 200 people already. As we got in line for the book, everybody was busy talking about the past 6 books. Now,I've already finished it.I finished it in about 13 hours.Me and my dad each have our own copy because my dad knows we were bound to fight over the book,so he bought two instead.

An old friend

This old SLR belongs to my dad.I think my dad got it when he was in boarding school at the age of 15, so this camera is about 24 years old because my dad is now 39 years old.I've seen the pictures which my dad took using this old camera and it turned out very nicely.I was hoping my dad would fix it because I wanted a hands on experience on an SLR but my dad told me the cost of fixing it would be much more expensive than buying a dSLR instead.

MIA

I've been missing for nearly 4 days now.I had to study for my exam.My school has an exam every month but after this exam that I'm sitting for now, there won't be another exam until October.

The picture above shows 'tauhu bakar' or fried tauhu.I've never tasted it before because I've never liked it but my mum,dad and brother love this dish.My brother can finish it less than under a minute or two.

Durian fest

We had another durian fest on Sunday night. My mum and dad went to pick up my younger brother's Combivent and Inflamide puff at Ampang Puteri and when they came back, they didn't only just come back with the puff but also with durian.I was very thrilled indeed but because I was tired at that time and full from eating Pizza Hut earlier on,I only ate one and the next morning I had a stomach ache because of the pizza. This durian had more flesh and was very creamy.Very tempting isn't it?

Beautiful...

Among all of the flowers in my father's garden,I like this one but I like the frangipani better.Everyday before going to school,I'll look at this flower and take lots of pictures of it so in my camera nearly 65% of it is filled with the pictures of this flower.I wish I knew the name of this flower.Does anybody here know?

Have a nice week everyone!

Ampang Puteri #2

When my mum told Dr. Ashar about me photographing him scanning the baby for my DP Blog,he didn't seem to mind.So I snapped away.

In the picture above,it shows my mum's doctor getting ready to scan my mum's tummy. He first applied some jelly and later scaned her stomach. As soon as everything was going well,Dr. Ashar checked the organs of the baby and saw that the organs were alright. We wanted to see the baby's face, but unfortunately she covered her face with her hands and after that, she yawned!I was very thrilled.I thank God so much because I finally get to have a baby sister.
This picture shows Dr. Ashar measuring the head of the baby. The baby will be due one week before Hari Raya Puasa which is early September this year.
